Look B4 You Leap & Sun Series Schooling Shows
Along with their USEA Recognized Horse Trials, Copper Meadows also hosts several unrecognized events throughout the year. These shows are Copper Meadows’ fantastic Sun Series: one-day shows that allow horse and rider to compete on a first-rate course without the pressures of competing in a recognized event! The Sun Series is ideal for competitors on a budget, green horses and/or riders needing exposure to eventing, or as a supplement to Area VI recognized events.

Look B4 You Leap Cross-Country Clinic
On the Saturday before each Sun Series one-day event, Taren Hoffos and Laura Presmyk teach group cross-country lessons. The clinics are a great introduction for the green rider/horse, and a fabulous way to practice your course before you head out at Sunday’s event. Clinics are approximately 2 hours, with up to 6 riders in each group, scheduled throughout the day. The clinic schedule is made the week of the show, and finalized on the Thursday before the weekend. Ride times are posted on the website and on the Copper Meadows Facebook page. To sign up for the clinic, please send an email to Taren with your name and the level you would like to ride. All levels are welcome – from Advanced horses and riders to pairs that have never tackled cross-country. Join us for the fun!
Sun Series One-Day Shows
Dressage begins with scheduled times at 8am, and continues through the day with tests scheduled every 8 minutes. Using SignUpGenius, Copper Meadows allows for early sign up for a dressage time! Dressage times become available one week before each event, and the link to sign up will be posted on our Facebook page and also our website. Please sign up in advance for a dressage time. Riders may schedule a time for a short court test or a long court test, both arenas will be set and available for competition. Pre-payment is required to reserve your dressage time; riders must then visit the office upon their arrival to pay the remainder of their entry and receive their number for competition.
The show jumping courses from Elementary through Training level are set in the large jump arena, allowing the show jumping phase to run in an open gate format. Riders may jump their show jumping course any time from 10am on – course maps will be posted outside the arena, and there will be a ring steward checking riders in. Like the show jumping, the cross-country runs open gate as well. All courses are flagged, and there will be a starting steward near the start box who will start riders. The cross-country opens at 10:30am. Any rider entered in Preliminary or above will be asked to check in with the show jumping ring steward a few minutes early to allow the jumps from the Training level course to be raised to Preliminary height, at which point the rider may jump the course.
Full Phase Format
In order to be considered for ribbons, prizes, and year end points, riders must be entered in all three phases of the show at the same level – dressage, show jumping, and cross-country (Full Phase). In the interest of safety, riders must ride their show jumping round before their cross-country, and may only jump once their dressage is complete. However, if a rider is not participating in the dressage phase then the order they choose to jump show jumping and cross-country is up to them. Riders wishing to add on rounds in any phase of the competition will use their first round as their show result.
We use US Eventing Dressage tests as follows for the Full Phase Format. Riders may choose to ride test A or B.
- Elementary – 2018 Beginner Novice Eventing Test A or B
- Beginner Novice – 2018 Beginner Novice Eventing Test A or B
- Novice – 2018 Novice Eventing Test A or B
- Training – 2018 Training Eventing Test A or B
- Preliminary – 2018 Preliminary Eventing Test A or B
Show Jumping and Cross-Country courses for the Full Phase Format are offered at the following heights:
- Elementary – 2′ and under
- Beginner Novice – 2’7″
- Novice – 2’11”
- Training – 3’3″
- Preliminary – 3’6″
Schooling Format
If a rider wishes to enter all three phases at separate levels that is fine, however their results will not count toward points, prizes, or ribbons. We value schooling very highly, and encourage riders to choose what is best for their horse!
Stabling
Sixty temporary stalls are available for stabling beginning as early as the Thursday before the show for $20 per night. All stalls are open and first come, first serve. Please let us know via email if you will be using a stall.

Year End Points and Prizes
Copper Meadows appreciates your participation at our Sun Series One-Day events, and wants to give back for your patronage! Any rider entered in the Full Phase Sun Series One-Day events will be automatically added into our database for year end points – which lead to year-end awards. Following is our point system:
Participation and completion of a one-day event: 10 points
Participation in the Look B4 You Leap Clinic: 5 points
1st place: 6 points
2nd place: 5 points
3rd place: 4 points
4th place: 3 points
5th place: 2 points
6th place and below: 1 point
Riders accumulate points throughout the year, beginning with the November one-day the previous year, and points are counted through our October one-day event. At the November one-day event Copper Meadows hosts an awards dinner and prize presentation for the riders!
