Copper Meadows Derbies are another great way to experience the thrill of cross-country at Copper! Derbies are a mixture of show jumps and cross-country obstacles incorporated into a course that winds through three of our arenas. The Derby is an optimum time event, with Intro through Preliminary levels. Courses average 17 jumps and 20 jumping efforts, and incorporate terrain, ditches, brush fences, narrows, and unique obstacles like straw bales.
Derbies are run with the following rules:
Faults: A show jump fault is assessed 4 penalties, as are refusals at any obstacle. A circle will be assessed 4 penalty points. Fall or rider and/or horse will result in elimination. Three refusals at one fence, or four cumulative refusals, will result in elimination.
Time: Derbies are optimum time events; optimum time will be posted the day before the Derby. Riders over the optimum time will incur .4 penalties for each second over optimum time. There is no penalty for riding too fast, however the rider closes to optimum time with a clear round will be the winner.
